The dogmatic Platonist tradition running from Plato through Speusippus, Xenocrates, Polemo, Crates, and Crantor, holding a settled body of doctrine. Cicero presents it (with the Peripatetics) as one school under two names, the position he himself professed before turning to the New Academy.
