the Seven Sages

the Seven

also: the Seven, the Seven Sages, Seven Wise Men, septem sapientes, the Seven Wise Men

The traditional canon of seven wise men of archaic Greece (commonly Thales, Solon, Bias, Pittacus, Cleobulus, Periander, and Chilon), proverbial for practical wisdom. Cicero notes in De Finibus 2.7 that they were styled "wise" not by their own claim but by the common verdict of all peoples, unlike Epicurus.
