law

lege Cornelia

also: lex Cornelia

Sulla's law of 81 BC stripping the tribunes of the plebs of most of their effective powers, in particular limiting their right of legislative initiative and barring tribunes from further magistracies. It remained in force until largely rolled back by Pompey and Crassus as consuls in 70 BC; Cicero refers to it in the Verrines as the statute Q. Opimius was prosecuted for vetoing.
