Antiochus IV Epiphanes

Antiochus IV

Seleucid king of Syria (reigned 175-164 BC) whose invasion of Egypt was halted by the Roman envoy C. Popilius Laenas in 168 BC. Cicero refers to him in the Popilius anecdote in the Eighth Philippic.
