Archilochus of Paros

Archilochus

Greek iambic and elegiac poet of Paros (7th c. BC), the archetype of savage personal invective. Cicero calls Bibulus's venomous edicts against Caesar and Pompey "Archilochean" (Att. 2.20.6, 2.21.4).
