Arruns Tarquinius

Arruns

also: Arruns, Arruntem, Aruns Tarquinius

Son of the deposed king Tarquinius Superbus, who fell in single combat with the consul Lucius Junius Brutus at the battle of Silva Arsia (509 BC), each killing the other by mutual blows. Cicero uses the duel to ask whether Brutus's courage was driven by hatred of the tyrant rather than by reason.
