Athenio

also: Athenione, the standard-bearer Athenio

A henchman of P. Clodius cast by Cicero as the "standard-bearer" (signifer) of Clodius's street-gangs (Att 2.12.2); the name pointedly recalls Athenion the slave-king of the Sicilian revolt, branding the Clodians a servile insurgency. Distinct from person:athenion-fugitivus, the historical Sicilian rebel.
