Bardylis the Illyrian

Bardulis

also: Bardulis Illyrius, Bardylis

Illyrian brigand-chief and later king (fl. fourth century BC) who, according to Theopompus, amassed great resources by dividing plunder fairly among his band. Cicero pairs him with Viriathus as proof that even outlaw power depends on a kind of justice.
