C. Aelius Paetus Staienus, quaestor 77 BC, a senator of conspicuously bad reputation, the most notorious of the corrupt jurors in the Oppianicus trial (Pro Cluentio 65-87, where his manoeuvres dominate the narrative). Tried for perduellio shortly after and condemned (Top. 75). A standing type-name in Cicero for the venal juror (Verr. 2.2.79).
