Ancestress of the Claudii, famed for proving her chastity by single-handedly hauling the stranded ship bearing the Magna Mater (Cybele) up the Tiber to Rome in 204 BC. In the Pro Caelio the imagined Appius Claudius Caecus invokes her as a model of female virtue against Clodia.
