Cleitus the Black

Clitus

also: Clitus, Clitum, Cleitus, Cleitus Melas

A Macedonian officer and close companion of Alexander the Great who had once saved Alexander's life. Alexander killed him in a drunken quarrel and was so overcome with remorse that he could scarcely keep his hands from himself; Cicero cites the episode as proof that anger is voluntary and a matter of opinion.
