Dionysius the Stoic

also: Dionysius Stoicus, Dionysio Stoico, Dionysius the Stoic

A Stoic teacher whom Cicero heard lecture in the schools at Athens and who wove verses into his discourse, though (Cicero says) by rote and without elegance. He is distinct from Dionysius of Heraclea the Renegade (Tusc. 2.60), being a contemporary of Cicero's student years rather than a pupil of Zeno of Citium.
