Hasdrubal

Hasdrubal son of Gisco, the Carthaginian general defeated by Scipio Africanus at the Great Plains (203 BC); but Cicero at Verr. 2.3.125 most likely intends a generic Carthaginian commander operating in Sicily during the Punic Wars. The point is that even in the worst foreign invasions the Sicilian peasantry was not so destroyed as under Verres.
