Heraclius, son of Hiero, of Syracuse, who inherited a fortune of three million sesterces from the elder Heraclius; Verres engineered a fraudulent suit by the gymnasium of the city to dispossess him, in the most notorious Sicilian inheritance case of the Verrines (Verr. 2.2.15, 35-50; 2.4.136). He was driven from Syracuse and lent his name to the affair.
