Hipparchus of Nicaea

Hipparchus

Astronomer and geographer (2nd c. BC), founder of trigonometry and discoverer of the precession of the equinoxes, who criticized Eratosthenes' geography on mathematical grounds. Cited with Serapion at Att. 2.6 as a reason Cicero abandons his project.
