Son of Philoxenus of Calacte, guest-friend and close connection of Cicero. In 46 BC Cicero wrote to proconsul Glabrio (Fam. 13.37) reporting that Hippias's property was being held in public ownership under another man's name, contrary to Calactine civic law, and asking Glabrio to intervene in equity.
