person
Lucius Caninius Gallus
Caninius
also: Caninius noster, Caninius
A friend and confidant of Cicero in the mid-40s BC who acted as an intermediary between Cicero and Varro (Fam. 9.6) and ran errands and carried messages; conventionally identified as L. Caninius Gallus (tr. pl. 56 BC). Distinct from C. Caninius Gallus (person:gallus-canius) where that identification is doubted. (Possibly identical with the tribune of 56 BC, C. Caninius Gallus = person:gallus-canius; identity uncertain, kept distinct pending review.)
