Lucius Cossinius Anchialus

Anchialus

also: L. Cossinius Anchialus, Anchialus

Freedman of L. Cossinius, commended by Cicero to Servius Sulpicius Rufus in Fam. 13.23. He is described as highly regarded by his patron and by Cicero, and praised for probitas (integrity), humanitas (civility), and observantia (attentiveness). His Greek cognomen Anchialus is typical of freedmen of eastern Mediterranean origin. Distinct from the slave Anchialus (person:anchialus) of Egnatius Rufus (Fam. 13.45).
