L. Domitius Ahenobarbus, consul 54 BC (the man defeated and killed at Pharsalus, Phil. 2.71), a leading optimate and inveterate enemy of Caesar. He appears already in the 60s as Cicero's important supporter (Ad Att. 1.1) and figures prominently in the political letters of the 50s (Ad Q. fr. 2.13).
