Lucius Roscius Fabatus

L. Fabatus

also: L. Roscius, L. Roscius Fabatus, L. Fabatum, Lucius Fabatus

Praetor in 49 BC; with the younger L. Iulius Caesar he carried Caesar's peace terms between Caesar and the Pompeian leadership in January–February 49 BC (Att. 8.12). He was killed in the Mutina campaign in April 43 BC, named by Pollio among the casualties when the Martian legion was destroyed (Fam. 10.33). [Identification of the 49 BC envoy with the 43 BC casualty rests on the rare cognomen Fabatus and the attested death of L. Roscius Fabatus at Mutina — reviewer to confirm.]
