The ruler or leading citizen of Phlius who, in the anecdote Cicero takes from Heraclides Ponticus, questioned Pythagoras about his art and elicited the first definition of "philosopher" as a lover of wisdom. He is the foil for Pythagoras's comparison of human life to a festival with three kinds of attendees.
