Gaius Licinius Macer Calvus

Calvus

Roman orator and neoteric poet (82–c. 47 BC), son of the historian Licinius Macer and a friend of Catullus; leader of the Atticist movement in oratory. In Fam. 15.21 Cicero explains to Trebonius that he praised Calvus's learned but underpowered talent partly to spur him on. Distinct from C. Licinius Macer the historian.
