M. Scaurum

also: Marcus Scaurus

M. Aemilius Scaurus, consul 115 BC and (until his death c. 89) the dominating princeps senatus of his generation; censor 109, twice acquitted of repetundae, author of historical memoirs. Father of the Scaurus of the previous entry and stepfather of Sulla. Cicero invokes him as the canonical Roman aristocrat (Verr. 2.3.213; Pro Sest. 101; Pro Font. 24; Pro Scauro).
