M. Favonius, praetor 49 BC, an austere Stoic and self-styled imitator of M. Cato Uticensis, sharp-tongued in the senate and constant supporter of the optimate cause. He attended Brutus at Antium after the Ides (Ad Att. 15.11) and was put to death by Antony after Philippi (42 BC). One of Cicero's regular correspondents (Ad Q. fr. 2.9; Phil. 13.39).
