M. Brutus (the elder)

also: Marcus Brutus the elder

Tribune of the plebs 83 BC and a Lepidan commander; he surrendered Mutina and was put to death by Pompey at Regium in 77 BC. Father of the tyrannicide M. Iunius Brutus. Cicero lists him among the men whose killing Caesar threatened to make Pompey answer for. Distinct from his son (person:brutus).
