Marcus Livius Macatus (Salinator)

Salinator

The Roman commander who lost the town of Tarentum to Hannibal in 213 BC but held the citadel; in Cicero's anecdote he boasts to Fabius Maximus that the recapture (209 BC) was owed to him, drawing Fabius's witty rebuke. Traditionally called Salinator.
