Marcus Manlius Capitolinus

M. Manlius

The defender who repelled the Gauls' night assault on the Capitol in 390 BC but was later condemned for aiming at kingship; his house was razed and the site planted with groves. Cicero lists him among those whose homes were destroyed as marks of punishment for tyrannical ambition.
