Nicomedes IV Philopator, last king of Bithynia (reigned c. 94-74 BC); his bequest of the kingdom to Rome made Bithynia a province in 74 BC and provoked the renewed war with Mithridates. Cicero alludes to the famous litter of the kings of Bithynia (Verr. 2.5.27) and to Nicomedes as a kindly host to Roman senators (Verr. 2.1.63).
