Philoxenus of Calacte

Philoxenus

also: Philoxeni, Philoxenus

Father of Hippias of Calacte; a notable of the Sicilian city Calacte. Named only as patronymic in Fam. 13.37. Uncertain attribution: the Philoxenus named as Hippias's father (Fam. 13.37) is probably a different person from C. Avianius Philoxenus (Fam. 13.35), who has a Roman name and Cisalpine connections — the coincidence of the name Philoxenus is noted but the two are treated as distinct.
