Pipa, the wife of Aeschrio

also: Pipa, Aeschrionis Syracusani uxor, Pipa, Aeschrionis uxor

Pipa, the noble Syracusan wife of Aeschrio and mistress of Verres; verses lampooning the affair were inscribed above the praetor's tribunal at Syracuse. Through her Verres made Aeschrio publican of the Herbitan tithes (Verr. 2.3.77; 2.5.31). The Pipa-affair is one of the standing scandals of the speeches.
