Polyclitus

Polyclitus of Argos (active mid-5th century BC), the great Peloponnesian sculptor of canon-setting bronzes (Doryphoros, Diadoumenos) and the chryselephantine Hera of Argos. Cited at Verr. 2.4.5 in the catalogue of Greek masters whose works adorned the shrine of Heius at Messana; one of the touchstones of Cicero's art-historical references (Paradoxa Stoic. 37; Brut. 70, 296).
