Q. Catulum priorem

Q. Lutatius Catulus, consul 102 BC, the colleague of Marius at Aquae Sextiae and Vercellae against the Cimbri (101); patron of letters, author of memoirs and Greek-style poems, host of the philosophical and literary circle of his day. Father of the consul of 78. He committed suicide in 87 BC in Marius's purge (Verr. 2.3; Pro Archia 5-6).
