Q. Metelli

also: Quintus Metellus, kindness of Quintus Metellus

Q. Caecilius Metellus Creticus, consul 69 BC, conqueror of Crete 68-66, triumphed in 62; he had clashed with Pompey over jurisdiction during the pirate war. Brother of the praetor of 71 BC (Verres's successor in Sicily). He recurs as patron of the Sicilians at Verr. 2.2.36 and as a witness in the Pro Flacco (30, 63). Distinct from his cousin Q. Metellus Celer.
