Quintus Scaevola

Q. Mucius Scaevola, the pontifex maximus, consul 95 BC with L. Crassus, the supreme jurist of the late Republic and author of the first systematic treatise on civil law in 18 books. Cicero's senior teacher in his youth; murdered in 82 BC by Marian agents at the altar of Vesta (Pro Rosc. Am. 33-34). Distinct from Scaevola the augur (Q. Mucius cos. 117). Standing model of integrity (Verr.; Pro Planc. 33).
