Sertorianos milites

also: Sertorian soldiers

Q. Sertorius (c. 126-72 BC), Roman general and Marian, who from 80 BC carried on a sustained insurgency in Spain against the Sullan regime; finally murdered by his lieutenant M. Perperna. The Sertorian war (Verr. 2.5.146-153; Pro lege Manilia 10, 21) is a recurring point of reference for the disorder of the 70s, and Sertorian fugitives are the supposed background for Verres's executions of Roman citizens.
