Spurius Maelius

Sp. Maelius

A wealthy plebeian of early Rome who, by distributing cheap grain at his own expense, fell under suspicion of aiming at kingship and was killed by C. Servilius Ahala. Cicero ranks him among the slain would-be tyrants whose killers won glory.
