Tiberius Sempronius Gracchus

Tiberius Gracchus

also: Ti. Gracchus, Tiberius Gracchus, Gracchus

Tribune of the plebs in 133 BC whose agrarian reforms provoked violent opposition; he was killed in a riot led by P. Cornelius Scipio Nasica. Cicero's optimate sources treated his killing as a legitimate defence of the commonwealth.
