The famous gymnasium and grove northwest of Athens where Plato taught and which gave its name to the Academic school of philosophy. Denied burial within the city walls, Servius Sulpicius Rufus had Marcellus cremated and a marble monument raised for him in the Academy (Ad Fam. 4.12).
