Boeotiae

also: Boeotia

Boeotia, the inland district of central Greece around Thebes, an old confederate region with a celebrated military tradition (Plataea, Leuctra); under Roman rule administratively dependent on Achaia. Cicero mentions the country in the catalogue of Roman conquests at Verr. 2.1.55 (Mummius's Achaean settlement) and as one of the regions sending witnesses against Flaccus (Pro Flacco 63).
