Centuripa

Centuripae, a large and prosperous inland city of central Sicily in the grain belt; populous, with celebrated cavalry, and one of the principal civitates immunes of the island. It supplied numerous witnesses against Verres and is repeatedly singled out as a community ruined by his tithe-regime (Verr. 2.3.108-114; 2.4.29; 2.5.70).
