Arethusa

The Arethusa, the great fresh-water spring on the island of Ortygia at Syracuse, fed (it was thought) by the river Alpheus running under the Ionian Sea from Olympia. The fountain is one of the standing wonders of the ancient world; Cicero notes the spring as one of the chief beauties of the city (Verr. 2.4.118).
