Cisalpine Gaul, the great Roman-administered region of the Po valley between the Apennines and the Alps, divided into Cispadana and Transpadana. Granted Latin status by Cn. Pompeius Strabo (89 BC), full citizenship by Caesar (49), and incorporated into Italy under Augustus. The standing province of Antony in the Philippics (Phil. 3.8-13) and the home of Caesar's veteran legions (Verr. 2.1.36).
