Helorum

also: Helorus

Helorum (modern Eloro), a small coastal town on the south-eastern shore of Sicily, on the road from Syracuse to Pachynus. The fleet disaster off the harbour-mouth of Helorus in 71 BC, in which Verres's squadron under Cleomenes was driven aground and burnt by the pirate Heracleo, is the central naval episode of the Verrines (Verr. 2.5.90-100).
