Jerusalem

Jerusalem, the Jewish religious capital. From the time of Hyrcanus II (mid-second century BC) the Jewish diaspora regularly remitted the half-shekel temple tax thither; Flaccus's ban on this export from Asia is defended by Cicero with markedly hostile language about Jewish religion (Pro Flacco 67-69), the longest classical Latin reference to the Jerusalem temple economy.
