Himeram

also: Himera

Himera, the old Greek city on the northern coast of Sicily, destroyed by Carthage in 408 BC; its surviving citizens transferred to Thermae Himeraeae nearby. Scipio Aemilianus restored its plundered statuary (including the famous bronze of Stesichorus) after the sack of Carthage in 146 BC, only for Verres to carry it off again (Verr. 2.2.86-87).
