Larissa (Larisa)
Larissa
also: Larisaeus, Larisa, Larissa, Larissae
The principal city of Thessaly in northern Greece, lying on the river Peneios. A major Hellenistic and Roman-era centre; its leading citizens had dealings with Roman magistrates visiting or governing the Greek provinces. Larissa lay within (or on the border of) the province of Macedonia, but its notables naturally sought the favour of the proconsul of adjacent Achaea.
