Leptis (probably Leptis Magna in Africa rather than Sicilian Leptis), the great Phoenician-Punic coastal city of Tripolitania, an important hub of Roman business; the banker T. Herennius had a tabernum here (Verr. 2.5.155). Distinct from the Leptis Minor north of Hadrumetum.
