The southeastern promontory of the Peloponnese (modern Cape Maleas), proverbially dangerous to navigation; the route a ship would round to sail from Greece toward Italy. In Ad Fam. 4.12 Marcellus intended to sail past Malea on his way home to Italy when he was murdered.
