Pontus, the kingdom on the south coast of the Black Sea built up by Mithridates VI Eupator and his predecessors; conquered by Pompey 66-63 BC and joined with Bithynia as a Roman province. The standing eastern enemy of Rome in the speeches of the 60s (Pro lege Manilia; De lege agr. 1.6; 2.50).
