Rhegium

Rhegium (modern Reggio Calabria), the great Greek city at the toe of Italy on the Sicilian strait, opposite Messana; received Roman citizenship under the lex Iulia of 90 BC. Possessor of a celebrated marble Venus (Verr. 2.4.135) and one of the conferrers of citizenship on the poet Archias (Pro Archia 5, 10).
